Recently, I found a new use for my iPad. I’ve been in a lot of meetings lately where being able to take notes directly onto my iPad would be extremely convenient. My buddy told me about the app PenUltimate. Although PenUltimate states that you dont need a stylus in order to use it ( and its true, you can use the app with just your finger tips ) I still felt it would be more comfortable and easier if I used a stylus with it.
So I went to the first place I go whenever I need something like this… Amazon of course! I’m a Prime member, so there’s a lot of benefits getting it from Amazon. When doing a search for iPad Stylus there were plenty of results. One of the first was the BoxWave Capacitive iPad Stylus. There was three things that drew me to this product first: 1) The high rating. 4.5 stars out of 5 with 213 reviews. Thats more than enough reviews to satisfy me! 2) It was a Prime item, so I knew my shipping would be fast and cheap! and 3) The price was where I wanted it to be. It wasn’t the cheapest and was far from the most expensive. I’m extremely impatient, so I chose the Next Day shipping for $3.99.
Now, I’m not new to stylus’s. I’ve had Palm PDA’s in the past and even within the last decade, I use to carry a Palm Treo 700w that ran Windows Mobile on it. But given how the iPad is a completely different beast than those devices were, I figured the stylus would be a little different.. And it was! Its roughly the same size as the previous stylus’s, but without the point on the end. Its round and firm, with a rubbery feel to it, which makes highlighting text in some apps a breeze. I was also impressed with the weight of it. It has the perfect weight and feel to it that makes holding it comfortable. I’ve also started using it as a pointer when I’m wearing gloves. Beats having to take off my one glove several times when using my iPad.
I was also worried about loosing it! It wouldn’t be the first time something like that happened to me… But I found that the pocket clip at the top of it is nicely designed so that when clipped to a shirt pocket or some other piece of clothing, its not going anywhere! It also has a one inch cord on it which has a plug that fits firmly into the audio jack on the iPad. This way your stylus will never be separated from your iPad.
Writing with it was everything I hoped it would be. I was worried before getting it that I wouldn’t be able to write easily with it, or that it wouldn’t be comfortable to write with so my writing would be illegible. Those worries were quickly put to the rest the first time I started writing with it. I’m not sure if that has more to do with PenUltimate or the stylus, but either way, the job was getting done.
To sum it all up, and if you haven’t been able to figure it out by now, I highly recommend BoxWave’s Capacitive iPad Stylus. Its worth the cost and I think you’ll find it to be a good fit for your needs as well.
